- Purpose declaration (education, family maintenance, gifting, etc.)
- For large transfers: Bank statements, salary slips, or income tax returns may be requested
For Recipient (Canada)
- Full legal name as per Canadian bank account
- Bank account number
- 5-digit transit number
- 3-digit financial institution number
- Recipient’s address (required for some transfer types)
Rules & Important Guidelines
Liberalised Remittance Scheme (LRS)
All transfers from India to Canada fall under the RBI’s LRS. The current annual limit is USD 250,000 per individual per financial year.
Tax Collected at Source (TCS)
Remittances above ₹7 lakh in a financial year attract TCS as per Indian tax laws.
Permissible Purposes
Transfers are allowed for education, family maintenance, medical treatment, gifts, travel, property purchase, and investments.
FEMA Compliance
All outward remittances must comply with FEMA regulations and RBI guidelines.
Canadian Regulations
Incoming international transfers to Canada may be monitored under FINTRAC regulations.
